A Worshipful Heart
“For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.”” John 4:24 NLT
Today I’m stuck at home nursing the bursitis in my shoulder. I didn’t get much sleep so I’m a bit grumpy. What’s worse is I can’t get to church this morning… my favorite part of the week, worshipping the Lord with the amazing people there. The Spirit is moving in our church and we are in a season of growth. It’s an exciting time… I hate not being there to worship with my church family.
So, here I sit feeling sorry for myself…
As I was reading this morning, I had to stop at this familiar verse. Jesus speaking to the Samaritan woman, was reassuring her that all God is looking for is true worshipers, those that worship in spirit and in truth. As I thought about this I realized a few things.

God wants us to worship Him in every part of life…even when nursing a bum shoulder. It doesn’t matter where we are or that we can’t make it to church. Our worship is an expression of our love for Him. When we sing of His love and His truth, our spirits can soar higher than any circumstance. Our problems lessen as we realize we are walking through this with Him. Our faith increases as we let go of our fear and allow His Spirit to fill us with His love.
So, when our hearts are heavy, sing to the Lord. When our hearts are rejoicing, sing to Him. When we have nothing to say and it seems all hope is gone, worship and sing praises to Him. He will surround us with His presence in a tangible way so we can experience a spiritual breakthrough.
Worship is a gift that lifts us high above our circumstances and brings God’s Spirit to life in us. It revives our weary souls and gives us strength to keep going.
There is truly nothing better than having the truth of God’s word that sets us free and lifting up our voice to the God who saves us. So while I can’t lift my hands to worship… I will lift my heart!
Will you join in?
